Appearance: Tall, with the typical pointed ears and greenish skin tint common to lighter-skinned Vulcans, Spock wears the standard blue Starfleet Sciences Division uniform of his era. His hair is cut in almost a “bowl” across the front, with slanted eyebrows and angular features that cut a commanding profile. He actually has quite a pleasant smile, and though he rarely shows it fully due to his lack of emotions, there is often the hint of one just at the edges.

History: http://en.memory-alpha.org/wiki/Spock

Personality: Commander Spock is a child of two worlds. Born of a human mother and Vulcan father, he has spent his entire life trying to live up to “Vulcan” ideals, embracing logic rather than emotion. Like most Vulcans, Spock gives off the aura of being incapable of emotion, cold-hearted, and a soulless logical "machine". However, within him is an eternal struggle between his human side and his Vulcan side. Even growing up, he was educated in the Vulcan way, but his schoolmates, aware of his "alien" side, constantly attempted to elicit an emotional response from him. On the rare occasions that they succeeded, they quickly regretted it, as his then-uncontrolled emotions would usually end up pounding the crap out of the unfortunate student who had provoked him.

As he grew, he learned to control his emotions more, using them to his advantage when necessary, but able to compartmentalize them more so that they did not interfere more than needed, as well as for fear of losing control and harming someone again.

Despite his control of his emotions, he does have his moments where his humanity "leaks" out. He is not above leaving logic behind when necessary, perfectly capable of thinking "outside the box" and coming up with creative solutions that cold, pure logic might not necessarily arrive at. Still, he is very cool under intense pressure, not allowing the stresses of the situation to affect his judgment. This has often put him at odds with those under his command, who have seen his coolness as uncaring, which is untrue, but rather his attempts at maintaining control in a difficult situation.

He has a very dry, often cutting sense of humor, often catching crewmates off-guard with the perfect comment, delivered without a smile, but at most a raised eyebrow. While it is said that Vulcans are incapable of lying, Spock is perfectly able to mislead and misdirect, coaching it as "exaggeration" or "errors" and completely justifying it with his heritage.

While his fellow Vulcans are perfectly capable and even willing to form relationships when it is logical, Spock embraces this, seeing the great need for such bonds. He has had romantic relationships in the past, and even has extremely close friendships. Despite his constant bickering with Dr. McCoy, he considers the man one of his closest friends, even requesting that he join him on Vulcan for his (aborted) marriage to T'Pring. Perhaps closest is his bond with his captain, James Kirk. They are more than just friends, they are like brothers (the Vulcan term is t'hy'la, which can mean "friend" or "brother" or even "lover"), and both would do anything for the other, despite all logic. Even to others, he is very loyal to those who he is close to. He once put his career in jeopardy to ensure that his former captain, Christopher Pike, would live out the remainder of his years in happiness rather than pain and suffering.

He is a very cultured individual, greatly appreciative of music, art, literature (particularly mythology), and is extremely skilled at three-dimensional chess and diplomacy. Which Spock would argue are often very similar.

Powers/Abilities: Like all Vulcans, Spock possesses superior strength to humans. He is extremely intelligent, even by Vulcan standards, and has excellent deductive abilities. He is a telepath, although it works best when touching his subject. He can affect minds at a very short distance, however.

When Spock loses control of his emotions, it can be a very frightening thing. Vulcan emotions are extremely powerful, and giving in to them makes him almost barbaric and violent. Such times have included when he was in the midst of Pon Farr, the seven-year urge for Vulcans to mate, when their blood boils and cries out for passion, as well as under various environmental and temporal stresses.

Possessions: Spock carries standard-issue Starfleet away team equipment: a tricorder, a phaser, and a communicator, as well as his uniform.

Arrival: Woke up on the ship

Reason for Playing: I have always been fascinated by Vulcans, and it’s rare to get the opportunity to play Spock. Seeing how he would adapt to a new situation like this would be very interesting indeed. Plus I already have a lot of friends here!

First person: Personal log, Stardate 4526.2. Commander Spock reporting. We have just departed Deep Space Station K-7, having solved the mystery of the poisoned quadrotriticale and unmasking the Klingon infiltrator Darvin. All tribbles have been cleared from the Enterprise, and while I do not agree with Mr. Scott’s method of disposing of them, I would have to admit that there is a certain poetic justice in beaming them to the Klingon ship. Cyrano Jones has reluctantly agreed to Captain Kirk’s alternative means of sentencing for his crime, and we have been assured that Mr. Jones will fulfill his end of the agreement to the letter.

It is odd. While I understand the human need for companionship and the desire to care for lesser beings, there is something about these Tribbles that particularly draws such feelings. Perhaps it is their cooing, or seeming helplessness, despite their destructive capabilities. I reluctantly must admit that even I was taken in by them, and found myself drawn to them, however briefly. If their prolific reproductive tendencies could be curtailed, they might make fine companions for particularly lonely beings. Perhaps that is a subject for future academic study.

Third person: (200 words) Spock lay on his bed in deep meditation. Many people would think that lying on your back in a dark room with a bright light shining directly on your face would hardly be conducive to such an act, but he found it to be a most welcome reminder of the caves on Vulcan. Going deep until complete isolation was achieved, with only a single hole in the roof shining light and warmth down onto one’s face. It was truly invigorating, and allowed him to almost forget for a moment that he was within the confines of a starship.

His contemplation was interrupted by the sound of a hail. Allowing himself a slightly emotional sigh of annoyance, he got up and made his way to the comm panel. He had been expecting it sooner or later, of course; being the executive officer of the Enterprise meant that, even when off-duty, one was still expected to be prepared to act at a moment’s notice. The call from the captain was not panicked or frenzied; there was no emergency or immediate danger to the ship or its crew. However, they had discovered an unusual anomaly, and Kirk wished to have his science officer’s input before proceeding. No doubt other crew members had been called as well. It was logical, after all, to seek multiple opinions before acting. His meditation would have to wait. Logic dictated that the needs of the many did outweigh the needs of the few. Or the one. Even if that person had been deep in thought and felt on the verge of a deeper insight.
